Anonymous asked: Hello. Forgive me if I missed the technical details in an earlier post, but I'm curious how are you're listening to BJ (headphones, speakers in the living room, vinyl, cassette in your car, etc)? Also, do you think the way you're digesting his work now has any influence on your reaction or are you more tuned into the latent memories? Thanks for you time and please keep up the great work!
Excellent questions. As a general rule I’m trying to listen to everything that was released on vinyl on vinyl but I also have MP3 copies so I can get some studying in while I commute.
This means I’m splitting it up between speakers in the living room and headphones on the train. Since the train isn’t the best listening environment it’s mostly at home through the speakers but I do switch to headphones to give my wife a break (she’s not a fan). I take notes song by song and then give the album a full run through before again going song by song and then writing. I take this kinda seriously.
I think this is a better way to experience these songs that through jukeboxes and from car radios in Long Island parking lots.
As for memories, there are only a small number of songs that I have specific memories with so I try to connect those memories to the song, everything else is fresh take thanks in part to the fact that I’m hearing a lot for the first time with no particular memories of it.
Thank for asking and reading.
